Diario di Bordo, Rotta Verso Est.

Trenta giorni per scoprire quanto possibile delle meraviglie del Paese di Mezzo. Day 1th. Si parte da Shanghai e si fa presto a rimanerne affascinati: dall’aeroporto si viaggia alla folle velocità di 450km/h in direzione Pudong, dove ogni giorno una folla di gente si muove tra gli eccentrici grattacieli. Dallo Skyline svettano la Pearl Tower, la Jimao Tower e i recenti 680 metri del FWC. il primo giorno non si presenta al meglio per via della famosa nebbia di smog che non dà tregua alle maggiori città del paese. Vertigini? Sfido chiunque a passeggiare su un oblò a quell’altezza senza avvertirne. Lo stupore non si placa spostandosi nella città vecchia, area di residenza dei giardini Yu e della casa del tè dove sono passati anche Elisabetta II e Jimmy Carter. Chissà se anche loro hanno goduto degli stuzzichini serviti con l’amato infuso. Muoversi agilmente qui è quasi impossibile: i turisti alla ricerca di una foto in un angolo ancora inesplorato sono tantissimi. Bastano poche centinaia di metri per ritrovarsi al di fuori della cultura imperiale e godere lo spettacolo del Bund all’imbrunire. Seppur lo si possa pagare oltre gli standard europei, vale la pena bere un moijito sulla terrazza dei palazzi che contrastano i moderni grattacieli per osservare la spettacolare sfida che i flash dei turisti in passeggiata sembrano lanciare ai neon dello Skyline di Pudong. Day 3th. Si lascia Shanghai con la sensazione di non averla assaporata fino in fondo, direzione Sanmen, dove lavora Riccardo. Rispetto alle metropoli della costa orientale Sanmen è un piccolo villaggio dove ho potuto conoscere la vita delle campagna e dei pescatori. Centro di questa comunione tra la terra e il mare è il mercato dove si può acquistare di tutto, contrattando! Questo luogo ha suscitato molto interesse, specie il reparto “pescheria”, dove il pesce è freschissimo, addirittura vivo, e il reparto sartoria dove con soli 100rmb (10euro) si può acquistare un vestito di seta fatto su misura. Day 8th. Di nuovo in viaggio, questa volta diretti a Beijing. Grazie al fascino di luoghi come la splendida ed interminabile Città Proibita, il palazzo d’estate e la piazza pubblica più grande del mondo (anche se pubblica non del tutto perché sempre sorvegliata da poliziotti in divisa), al caldo e all’inquinamento non ci si pensa. I giorni a Beijing scorrono visitando templi e assaporando gustose ricette locali come scorpioni, grilli e perfino ragni fritti fino a quando, a 90 km dalla città, ci siamo presentati ad una delle sette meraviglie. Riscoprendo il cielo blu, dimenticato a Pechino, siamo rimasti stupefatti di fronte alla grandezza di quest’opera. La Grande Muraglia non sarà facile da dimenticare! Day 13th. Ritorno a casa giusto in tempo per organizzare il weekend alle porte. Si decide per Ningbo e Putuoshan, così, nonostante un po’ di influenza, prepariamo le valigie e via. A Ningbo scegliamo un giro nel Laowaitan, quartiere per stranieri come lo Xintiandì di Shanghai. Il mattino seguente, viaggio in barca fino all’isola di Putuoshan, meta di destinazione del pellegrinaggio cinese dedito al buddismo. Visitare questi templi popolati da pellegrini in preghiera è stata una vera emozione, intensificata dal profumo degli incensi bruciati in offerta a Budda. Tutto ciò conferisce all’isola molto fascino, arricchito dalle splendide spiagge frequentate dai cinesi solo in tarda serata per un bagno rinfrescante. Day 15th. Nuovo viaggio di ritorno a Sanmen per un po’ di tranquillità prima della partenza per l’International Festival Beer, il più famoso in Asia. Day 20th. Arriviamo a Qingdao a mezzanotte e seppur stanchi non ci priviamo di una serata al New York Club: cocktail e musica dal vivo. Qingdao è stata concessione dei tedeschi che hanno lasciato un’indelebile impronta architettonica che ci fa sentire più vicini a casa. Ristrutturata in occasione di Beijing 2006, la città ha un porto splendido e lungomare che collega le spiagge. Con curiosità la sera ci muoviamo verso il vero obiettivo e scopriamo che la vera testimonianza lasciata dai tedeschi è il birrificio Tsingao, che produce la birra più famosa di tutta la Cina. La festa, in perfetto stile Oktoberfest, trasforma i cinesi in allegri compagni di bevute che ci fanno sentire quasi come due vip: ogni occasione è buona per scattarci foto. Day 24th. Certo le distanze in Cina si sentono ma, detto con un po’ d’invidia, i mezzi di trasporto sono proprio efficienti e ben organizzati! Ultimi giorni di Sanmen. Day 28th. Luogo di partenza, Shanghai. Qualche locale alla moda e un po’ di shopping nella città più commerciale del mondo, nei bellissimi negozi di Nanjing road e nei fake markets dove tutto sembra originale, ma non si sa. Day 30th. Un altro volo, questa volta per lasciare il Paese di Mezzo e portarsi a casa un mare di ricordi difficili da riassumere in 5000 caratteri. La promessa è la solita, “ritornerò!” ma questa volta le motivazioni sono più forti, Riccardo è rimasto là, in Cina.

Because I don't feel any nationality!

Because travel and know new places and people is my first priority!
Because I'm born in Italy , studied in Belgium worked in China and States but it's not enough!
Because before to leave my life I want to see as much as possible!

White Sanmen!

Wher's the Christmas?
I was so sad to dont' see any Christmas tree or Santa Claus but the wheather helped to me to get back my Christmas Spirit!




This morning I wake up and I found the roads, lawns and all the hills around completely white!!
I cannot believe Sanmen saw the snow before of the Italy

干杯! Cheers!

Concert , Disco, pub or festival doesn’t matter what it’s important is to drink!
Drink a lot and quickly is a priority inside these crowded places..
And believe me those place can be very crowded!!



So in less than one hour any place become more livable because many guys already drunk goes to home early..
I’m been at Banana Club, in Beijing, at the M2 and Paulaner at Shanghai, at the International Beer Festival in Qindgao or to the classic Irish in Hong Kong and the story is always the same.
So bring a lot of patience with you and you can enjoy all the nights, also in China!
And what about Chinese guys.. If you like feel as a movies star is perfect! Prepare of yourself to make a lot of pictures with them and touch glasses with everybody..
... for my opinion is really funny!

Beijing part I

Ok, Leaving from Sanmen at midday to get Capital airport at dinner time (Italian dinner time!! 2030) after 45min by van, 40min by train, 25 min by taxi again and finally 2.5 hours by plain with all the relative waiting times..
The Hotel was pretty nice but we changed the room to get one with Forbidden city view .. very Nice!



However it was so late and we were without dinner yet so we decided to walk around the hotel and try to find some opened restaurant, so we went to the Tiananmen square and unless the beautiful view of the most famous plaza we didn't find any food.. sigh.




Time was running.. so we came back to the hotel and walked toward the shopping area.. Unfortunately the only place opened was a Chinese restaurant with many tables on the streets that it didn’t look so clean and tasty.
Giulia and another group of western people persuaded me to get a dinner there.. I didn't know exactly what I ordered until I had my plates in front of me because the menu was in Chinese and the waiter was speaking only Chinese.



But in effect Giulia was right.. It's been the best Chinese restaurant that I tried and also now I didn't find a better one!!
Good food and the waiter was so amazing.. but also so friendly!! We came there again during the next days, specially to get picture with Oronzo (the waiter/owner).
You Know.. Every city has a place that looks very dirty but it's so nice.. Genoa has "da Maria", Rome has "La parolaccia" and Beijing has "Oronzo"!!

Hany and the clock!

It was the June 3th. my first working day in Sanmen!
Meet bosses, meet colleagues, check office building and check the accommodation located at the Paul Palace hotel that was going to became my house for the next months.


First question: what kind of reasons for this hotel in Sanmen? I'm still waiting an answer now.. The hotel is beautiful and very big but it have a really bad kitchen!
Please, don't try western food unless the breakfast.




Second and third questions: What hell are you doing here In Sanmen? Why hell did you answer Yes?

No more questions..


Since I arrived finally in Sanmen with my story, I'm going to publish post without keeping an temporal order.
Anyway, the first day I meet also Hany, who will became my mentor for my first 30 chinese days up to his escape from Sanmen.




About the Clock??
I will have time to explain you better everything..

36 hours flying for 36 hours staying!

Never before I flied for so long time! I have been in New York with Giulia last Christmas but this time I started at Monday morning 7am thru Genoa-Paris-Shanghai-Qingdao to finally land at 230pm but a day after!!

My first impact with China was not so bad because Qingdao is pretty nice city on the Sea with several modern building and nice villas located on the North area in front of South Korea but about this we will discuss later. Also the airport is pretty nice that thanks to my colleague I saw many times to try to get his baggage lost on somewhere in China.
My Company thought that 36 hours to take relax, make all the medical examination and do request to the police office for the job permit was more than enough so on Thursday morning I was flying to Ningbo to get finally my destination....
Ningbo?

No No my final destination wasn't Ningbo but Sanmen, a very small city at 1.5 hours far from Ningbo by car toward South (or 30 minutes by train??); I lost most of the travel because I was sleeping but leaving Ningbo the chinese country was coming up to my eyes…

Many small houses, duck farmings, rice and cultivated fields and many small industries with chimneys everywhere; in spite this the views was very beautiful because a lot of green due to the rich vegetation that it’s typical of these areas with tropical clime in the South of China.

Last consideration: try to perform eyes medical examination with this table.. what you can say??

Baggage!

25 kilos plus 5 on board baggage weren't enough to bring with me all I need.
Specially because Giulia, my friends, my family and my town couldn't go inside.
But for a few seconds I really think to bring with me a part of all this.. or maybe a part that could remember me all this..


La Ciccia!

Yes, she's my Ciccia and since she's only 12 kilos and not more than half meter long I though to bring her with me and I like think, sometimes, about how my life in China could change with her!

What do you think about work in China?

During the weeks later the famous meeting I received request for my Curriculum Vitae in english language and after some days I received also the first official proposal: What do you think about work in China?
There's not any immediate response to these question but in some second I saw in front of me all the positive and negative aspects as my work experience, my salary and my carrier but also my friends, my family, my hometown and specially Giulia!
Honestly I tried to give a answer that couldn't bind me for future but in effect I never listened this question again.
Was december and Giulia was just graduated!


Only one more story before my departure..
It's about a phone call received on a friday morning, one of the so called "Ansaldo casual fridays". Was a guy speaking in english that want talk with me for a few minuets but not for a work issue.
The time indicated me that he wasn't call from the USA so probably from China??
Yes, that's right! He was calling me to test my english and in effect we didn't talk about work issue but sooner we started to talk about an italian rice recipe, about the pope's travelling and about the whether in my country. Don't ask me the next argument because he increased the level passing the minutes and the last question for me is a secret also now.
However since that day I have a nice picture of the zafferano rice on my desk provided kindly by my colleagues..

Welcome to China

Was about the end of November when during a normal business meeting I herad for the first time the word CHINA.
And now that it's exactly one year later I'm going to start to tell my best chinese experiences. Currently I'm writing from my office in Sanmen and I'm using the US internet connection becasue the Chinese Government not allow many websites as Blogger, you tube and others. Today is Sunday and I came to work for a few hours so now I have some free time to take care my blog.

But let's continue to tell since the beginning...

Parlamento Pulito

Trenette vongole e pomodorini

Ingredienti:
500 gr. di trenette di grano duro
una decina di pomodorini
700 gr. di vongole fresche delle quali 400 gr. sgusciate

Rosolare l'aglio in padella con olio extravergine aggiungere le vongole sgusciate far rosolare per qualche minuto, bagnare con vino bianco e lasciare sfumare il tutto aggiungere i pomodorini e le vongole con guscio nella padella, salare e pepare e lasciare cuocere per cinque dieci minuti.
Scolare la pasta un minuto prima della cottura e finirla nella padella con il condimento; aggiungere una manciata di prezzemolo tritato e servire!!

Troffie con panna speck e rucola

Ingredienti per due persone

200 gr. di troffie
150 gr. di speck
un porro
due pomodorini
100 ml. di panna

Tagliare le fette di speck a quadratini, lavare la rucola, e tagliarne una parte a strisce. Cuocere le troffie e levarle un minuto prima della cottura, nel frattempo far saltare lo speck in padella a fiamma moderata, aggiungere quindi la rucola e i pomodorini tagliati fini cuocere per un paio di minuti. Scolare le troffie e finire la cottura in padella unendo anche la panna, prima di servire aggiungere alcune foglie di rucola senza taglarla.

Candele in crema di zucca, crescenza e noci

Ingredienti:
80g di noci
200g di zucca
160g di pasta (candele)
80g di crescenza
1 porro
Preparazione:
Far rosolare la zucca tagliata a cubetti in un soffritto di porro per alucni minuti
Cuocere a fuoco basso per un qarto d'ora
Sciogliere la crescenza in una terrina con un po di latte aggiungere alcuni pezzi di zucca già cotta e frullare fino ad attenere un crema omogenea
Scolare la pasta poco prima della cottura e pproseguire per un paio di minuti la cottura in padella con la zucca
Versare la crema di crescenza e zucca sulla pasta già nei piatti e aggiungere le noci tritate in modo grossolano

Farro ai frutti di mare e curry

Ingredienti:
150g di Farro perlato
250g di frutti di mare
un trancio di tonno fresco o spada fresco
quindici pomodorini
curry
1 porro
Preparazione:
Preparare un soffritto di porri in una pentola in terracotta
Aggiungere il farro perlato e far rosolare per qualche minuto
Aggiungere acqua tipida mescolata con il curry e cuocere il farro per una quindicina di minuti
In un apadella a parte cuocere i frutti di mare per una decina di minuti e aggiungere il pesce fresco e far rosolare per bene
Spegnere il fuoco sotto il farro pocoo prima della cottura completa e mescolarlo ai frutti mare agiungere i pomodorini tagliati a pezzetti e lasciare cuocere ancora qulache minuto.
